Ariana Barer

Ariana (she/they) is a Vancouver-based intimacy coordinator with over 10 years of experience as both an anti-violence professional and choreographer.  Ariana holds an MA in Education from the University of British Columbia and has provided training on consent culture and supporting survivors across BC as well as for national and international audiences.

Ariana works with performers to take their safety, boundaries, and desired areas of growth into consideration while serving a director’s creative vision.  Combining humor and warmth with efficiency and respect for the creative process, Ariana has spent years consulting on productions and supporting directors and actors in their work to incorporate sexuality, sexual harm, trauma and resilience in storytelling in nuanced and accurate ways.

Ariana is keenly aware of the impact of art and media in shaping cultural norms and beliefs, as well as the impact of consent practices on performance.  Invested in how sexuality, sexual harm, queerness, race, trans and non-binary and BIPOC performers, and survivors are represented, Ariana is moved to serve as an intimacy coordinator in support of consent, confidence, and creativity on set.
